SESAC Launches “Inside the Biz” at Website

Performing rights organization SESAC has launched a new music education section on its website entitled “Inside The Biz”. Designed to assist web users to learn more about the music industry, “Inside the Biz” features video clips from notable industry heavyweights including Danny Lux, TV composer for “Boston Legal” and “Grey’s Anatomy” and Big John Platt, chief of EMI Music Publishing’s urban division.

The interviews cover a wide spectrum of topics relating to the music industry including basic issues of how a work obtains a copyright and the ins and outs of the career of a songwriter/composer. Pat Collins, SESAC’s president and chief operating officer, points out that providing the information via “Inside The Biz” is just another way the performing rights organization provides for the creative community.

“At SESAC, we understand that part of our job is helping songwriters and those interested in the music industry understand what’s involved in this complex business”, says Collins. “We are excited to launch ‘Inside the Biz,’ as our way of making the music industry seem a bit less complicated, especially for anyone who’s new to the business. Regardless of which facet of the industry a person is involved in, from songwriting to music publishing, he or she can find answers and expert advice.”

Comprised of six sections, “Inside The Biz” offers informative commentary on such topics as “Inside SESAC”, “Copyrights”, “Songwriters”, “TV/Film,” “Publishing” and “Record Labels” with interviews from 12 industry veterans including the aforementioned Danny Lux and Big John Platt as well as entertainment attorney Bruce Phillips, SESAC VP/Royalty Distribution & Research Services Hunter Williams publisher Jody Williams and award-winning songwriters Victoria Shaw and Jerry Salley.

Established in 1930, SESAC is a service organization created to assist both the creators of music and music users through royalty collection and music licensing. SESAC maintains a diversified repertory that includes virtually all genres of music. Headquartered in Nashville, SESAC also has offices in New York, Los Angeles, and London.
